Hoi2 Skin template

This is a Photoshop Skin template for Hearts of Iron 2.
First its a good idea to familiarise yourself with the skins already made in: \HOI2\Game\gfx\SKINS

1. Replace the Japanese test flag with a new country flag

2. Add nationspecific pictures or artwork in new layers with
Opacity set to something like 50%. Try using different blending modes on the layers, like "overlay" or "screen"
Old Propaganda pictures and Posters works well but you can
use any art you find suitable.

3. Make a silhouette of one of your pictures by tracing it with the
lasso tool and then fill it with a bright colour.
Use a blendingmode on the layers so things show through
from the background.

4. Add the countrys aviation symbol if you like

5. Fill the backgroundlayer with a colour you think is suitable
and change the toplayers colour too.

7. Create a new folder in \HOI2\Game\gfx\SKINS\ or overwrite the existing one
Name it with the correct tag for example USA for United States.
(you can find the tags in: \HOI2\Game\config\world_names.csv

6. Cut it up along the guides and save as different bmp files named like this:

fullscreen.bmp (hide the black_border layer when saving this file)
sidebar_A.bmp
topbar.bmp

8. Now youre finished. Good luck and have fun!

Leader & province editor for HoI 2

This is a leader + province editor for HoI 2. It makes it easier to edit certain data in HoI 2.

Screenshot 1 (http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~sher500/public/hoi2/screen1.jpg)

Download here (http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~sher500/public/hoi2/leadereditor.zip).

Compatible files:
1. Any HoI 2 leader files
2. HoI 2 province.cvs file

Major new changes:
1. You can open province.cvs and edit the data in it.
2. Improved the speed to save files.

What this program can do:
1. Increase/decrease provinces IC, metal, resource, etc
2. Modify other statistics for provinces
3. Change any/all leader statistics
4. Push back leader death date to 1990, effectively making them live forever in the game.

Things to know:
1. Make sure the file you are editing is not opened by any other program (e.g. notepad, Excel). If it is, you may have some trouble saving the game.
2. Opening province.cvs can take from 30 seconds to one minute, depending on computer speed. I know it's bad, probably I will try to increase the efficiency later.
3. The program needs Microsoft .NET framework to run. You can get it here (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=262d25e3-f589-4842-8157-034d1e7cf3a3&displaylang=en).
4. Make a backup before you edit anything in case there is any mistake or bug.

Probably next update:
1. Ability to change all the leader death dates in a few clicks instead of opening multiple files.
2. Ability to edit tech teams
3. Ability to edit ministers

Please feel free to comment, post any problem or suggest improvements. Enjoy!

No Leader Deathdate Modification

I have attached a zip file that changes the leader deathdates for the major nations to 1960, effectively creating a series f leader files in which a leader will not die unless he is killed off in an event.

The countries covered are:

Australia
Canada
Finland
France
Germany
Holland
Italy
Japan
Nationalist China
Nationalist Spain
Poland
Russia
United Kingdom
United States
USSR

To use this, simply unzip the contents of the file into your db/leader folder. Enjoy.

Starfire Historical Mod Available (Major Mod)

The first release (version A0) of the Starfire Historical Mod is available at:
http://www.mnstarfire.com/ww2/hoi/hoimain.html

This is a hasty major mod to fix up some of the most critical issues (specifically attention to slowing down combat, USA and USSR more reasonable).

As always our focus is on historical realism and a concern for multiplayer play (i.e. if you are looking for "fantasy fun" pick a different mod). This does not have an updated province.csv file yet, which was always the key to our previous HoI 1 mods.

Feedback would be greatly appreciated. Enjoy.

REVOLT.TXT: modding revolters and satellites

Some time ago, messing with the database that keeps track of rebellions and puppet status, I discovered some errors in territorial design, and some oddities (from my point of view, of course  ). I've tried to make some changes...

DOWNLOAD MODDED FILE revolt.txt (http://upl.silentwhisper.net/uplfolders/upload7/emkeien_revolt_0.2.zip)

+ GER has now intrinsic_gov_type set to fascist -> effect: right-wing conquerors only can release a national socialist Germany

+ DDR and FRG have now 1/1/1936 as start date
+ DDR and FRG cannot revolt
- regular_id = USA and intrinsic_gov_type = fascist removed from California and Texas definitions -> effect: a USA couped by fascists no longer turns in California (now, it become the CSA)

+ Richmond is now the capital for a released CSA
+ Rome is now the capital for a released Italy
+ Gaza is now the capital for a released Palestine
- Jerusalem is no longer a province in released Palestine -> Jerusalem isn't a province for Israel: let the choice to the player
- Sinai (Suez, el-Arish and Sharm el-Sheikh) is no longer an owned territory in released Egypt -> this keeps control of the Suez channel to the master and releaser
- Cyprus is no longer a province in released Greece

Hoi2Lib

Hoi2Lib is a library of tools for modding Hearts of Iron 2 that I'm currently developing.

I plan on doing modules for most things that can be modded, currently the Tech Tree module is 90% complete - I'll release v1.00 as soon as I'm through with that.

Just announcing it here to see if I get any preliminary comments or wishes before releasing the first version

Tired of having to guess when a tech team will finish researching a tech? Salvation!

Some of us prefer to conduct our research as efficiently as possible, but Johan believes that providing the player with a time estimate is unnecessary. Therefore, I present the Hearts of Iron II Research Assistant. This program will give you a precise prediction for when a tech will be completed.

http://site.voila.fr/hoifiles27/screenshot.png

I've spent around 15-20 hours in the last few days testing the game in order to nail down the tech research calculation exactly. If the formula is still off, I swear to God I'm going to kill myself.

Requirements: Hearts of Iron II v1.1, 1024x768 or higher resolution. The program reads the HoI2 path from the Registry, so it's best if the game is installed properly.

In order to produce accurate results, you need to provide the program with the proper data for your game. Make sure you set the start date to reflect the current in-game date, choose the proper difficulty, check off all the +% Research techs that you have, etc.
Finishing research on techs that grant +% Research (such as Basic Computing Machine) in the midst of researching other techs will obviously affect the completion time, therefore the prediction will be off.
Building rocket test sites and nuclear reactors in the midst of researching a tech with components that those buildings affect will obviously change the research time and mean that the prediction will be off.
In rare circumstances, rounding can cause the time estimate to be off if you save and load a game in the midst of researching a tech. This will happen more frequently with high research penaltys.
If there is a (×2) after the component name, that means that the component has its research time doubled.
Ministers that supposedly grant +% Research do not affect research time whatsoever. I tested the Infantry Proponent, Resource Industrialist, Technical Specialist, and School of Fire Support ministers and none gave any research bonus.
Dissent has no effect on research time.
Each level of a rocket test site or nuclear reactor adds +5 to the skill of the team when researching an appropriate component. For example, if Germany has a size 3 rocket test site, Wernher von Braun (skill 9) will effectively be a skill 24 tech team when researching rocketry components.
You can start on December 30 with no penalty for researching techs of the next year (ie. starting a tech on December 30, 1936 which has a historical year of 1937).
Minimum tech team skill is 1.
Minimum difficulty for a tech component is 3.
The workings of the 'Find Fastest Tech Team' commands is not necessarily self-evident, hence here is an example.

Example:

Tech Team # of Days to Research
Krupp 100
I.G. Farben 110
Wernher von Braun 115
Porsche 100
MAN 122
Messerschmitt 115
The 'Find Fastest Tech Team' command would find Krupp and Porsche.
The 'Find Second Fastest Tech Team' command would find I.G. Farben.
The 'Find Third Fastest Tech Team' command would find Wernher von Braun and Messerchmitt.

The Sexxicolor's Map Mod

Greetings all!

I loved HOI1 and love HOI2, but if there is one thing I hate about it, it is the colors on the map.

Luckily it's moddable! :p

And so, I have spent many hours reworking the entire HOI2 map. The codename? Sexxicolors! :D Here is a little preview to spark interest!

http://people.tamu.edu/~icc9709/europe.jpg

http://people.tamu.edu/~icc9709/terrain.jpg

The rest can be viewed by clicking these links!

North America (http://people.tamu.edu/~icc9709/namerica.jpg)

South America (http://people.tamu.edu/~icc9709/samerica.jpg)

Asia (http://people.tamu.edu/~icc9709/asia.jpg)

The New World Order! (http://people.tamu.edu/~icc9709/nwo.jpg)

As you can see, nearly every country has an improved color or totally new color, including many revolters, including the Caucus Republics, the Balkans, and other popular revolters such as the Confederate States, Egypt, Flanders, Wallonia, and Scandinavia.

Enjoy the download!

TO INSTALL:

Simply download this file (http://people.tamu.edu/~icc9709/sexxicolorsBETA1.zip) and extract it to your Hearts of Iron main folder. It will ask you if you'd like to overwrite existing files. Say yes! :D

Special thanks to Ian Coccozza for hosting the pics and download. :)

Be sure to check out his upcoming flag and shield mod! It's AMAZING!

Be sure to post feedback, good or bad, if you've downloaded and tried Sexxicolors.

Sexxicolors 1.0 Beta (http://people.tamu.edu/~icc9709/sexxicolorsBETA1.zip)

Yours truly,

Jamison Geibel

Ich hab zwar keine Ahnung von NATO-Symbolen, aber (ich glaub) man muss einfach rechtsklick/speichern unter einsetzen und dann an den richtigen Ort verschieben.

Enjoy.

Das hab ich vergessen hier anzugeben:

Mal was interessantes (habs aber noch nicht ausprobiert weil es erst gerade eben gepostet wurde:

Want a more determined Germany AI? - Try this!

Unsatisfied with the results of the standard AI, I started modding the Germany AI some time ago. I wanted to make it focus more on its aims: A better buildup (more tanks etc.), better research, no unnecessary wait between the campaigns (within historical boundaries) - in total: Be more of a challenge for an Allied player and a better ally for Axis players.
I still consider it a work in progress, but I'm pleased with the results so far: My last game as the Soviet Union on hard difficulty in the 1939 scenario was one of the most challenging and interesting I had! I hope you'll enjoy it too, and any comments, be it criticism, suggestions or approval, will be welcome. :)

Extra files for compatibility with Spocky's DAIM Japan (http://hlawatsch.dyndns.org/hoi/ai-modding/daim_dual.zip)

Instructions/Notes:

if you want to play with the modification, simply download from the first link and extract the zip file directly in your HoI 2 directory (you'll have to confirm overwriting a few files)
if you want to revert to the original 1.1 files, use the ai_backup.zip in the same way (second link)
if you want to use my mod together with DAIM Japan (http://www.europa-universalis.com/forum/showthread.php?t=188410), extract both zip files (in any order) and extract the ai_dual.zip (third link) on top of them (the ai_backup.zip will revert these changes as well)
the mod works with the 1936 and 1939 scenarios
only AI files and necessary switch events are changed/added, there are no artificial handicaps for the player - feel free to apply higher difficulty settings at the same time

Have fun, but please don't forget to share your impressions! There might be more countries in the pipeline... ;)

Want a more determined Japan AI? - Try this!

Frustrated by the disappointing japanese AI ( No China war , no pacific war ) I decided to improve it. Now after 14 days of tweaking and testing I'm proud to present the result:

a more Determined AI Modification : download DAIM Japan (http://hlawatsch.dyndns.org/hoi/ai-modding/daim_jap.zip)

Backup of the original files (http://hlawatsch.dyndns.org/hoi/ai-modding/ai_backup.zip)

For compatibility with DAIM Germany (http://www.europa-universalis.com/forum/showthread.php?t=188409) ( by G'Kar) you should download DAIM Dual , too.

Download DAIM dual (http://hlawatsch.dyndns.org/hoi/ai-modding/daim_dual.zip )

Instructions

Download the jap_ai.zip and unzip it into your main Hoi folder ( You have to confirm overwriting files )
If you want to use it together with DAIM Germany then install both mods and after this download and unzip DAIM Dual into your main Hoi folder
If you want the original files back ,then download the ai_backup.zip and unzip it into your main Hoi folder

Notes

This AI files only focus on the 1936 and 1939 champain. 1941 and 1944 are not supported and untedted.
I will add updates like a defence AI ,soon.
If this mod find its friends I'm willing to mod additional countries like GB
Feedback and flames are welcome ;)

DAIM Soviet Union

The more Determined AI Modification features its next extension: DAIM Soviet Union - a new set of AI files (including switch events) that makes the SU produce significantly more units and concentrate on the important research fields.
I'm confident it'll provide a greater challenge to the player! Please don't expect wonders though, there are limits to want can be done in soft AI modding and the experienced player will still be able win Barbarossa. However - coupled with a harder difficulty level things might become tough!

Downloads:

Backup of the original files (http://hlawatsch.dyndns.org/hoi/ai-modding/ai_backup.zip)

Instructions/Notes:

if you only want to play with the modification for the Soviet AI, download the first and the second link and extract the two files into your HoI 2 directory (first the framework, then the AI, you'll have to confirm overwriting a few files)
you can use any of the three other DAIM sets (Germany (http://hlawatsch.dyndns.org/hoi/ai-modding/daim_ger.zip), Italy (http://hlawatsch.dyndns.org/hoi/ai-modding/daim_ita.zip), Japan (http://hlawatsch.dyndns.org/hoi/ai-modding/daim_jap.zip)) on top of the framework if you like
if you want to play with all four available DAIM sets, you can also use the third download link - extract the file into your HoI 2 directory
if you want to revert to the original 1.1 files, use the ai_backup.zip in the same way (last link)
to those already playing with the older DAIM sets for Germany and/or Japan, please use the ai_backup.zip first (last link) and then proceed as explained above
the mod works with the 1936 and 1939 scenarios
only AI files and necessary switch events are changed/added, there are no artificial handicaps for the player - feel free to apply higher difficulty settings at the same time
ever since Europa Universalis 1, reloading from time to time seems to help the AI to do its job, I recommend reloading about once a year.

DAIM Italy

After the success of the more Determined AI Modification of Japan I'm proud to present the next release :

DAIM Italy (http://hlawatsch.dyndns.org/hoi/ai-modding/daim_ita.zip)

This mod was done in the same way than the last one by strictly AI file optimizing.
Italy should be more offensive and agressive ( war against greece , more units as examples)

Install instructions

First download and unzip the DAIM Framework (http://hlawatsch.dyndns.org/hoi/ai-modding/daim_framework.zip) into your main HOI Folder.
Then download and unzip DAIM Italy (http://hlawatsch.dyndns.org/hoi/ai-modding/daim_ita.zip) into your main HOI Folder
you'll have to confirm overwriting a few files
you can use any of the DAIM sets (Germany, Italy, Japan ,Russia) on top of the framework if you like

Thats all

If you want to use all for DAIM AIs ( Germany , Japan , Italy and Russia)
then you can download the DAIM Bigpack (http://hlawatsch.dyndns.org/hoi/ai-modding/daim_bigpack.zip) Compilation instead and unzip it into your main HOI Folder

Restore

The Sexxicolor's Map Mod

Greetings all!

I loved HOI1 and love HOI2, but if there is one thing I hate about it, it is the colors on the map.

Luckily it's moddable! :p

And so, I have spent many hours reworking the entire HOI2 map. The codename? Sexxicolors! :D Here is a little preview to spark interest!

http://people.tamu.edu/~icc9709/europe.jpg

http://people.tamu.edu/~icc9709/terrain.jpg

The rest can be viewed by clicking these links!

North America (http://people.tamu.edu/~icc9709/namerica.jpg)

South America (http://people.tamu.edu/~icc9709/samerica.jpg)

Asia (http://people.tamu.edu/~icc9709/asia.jpg)

The New World Order! (http://people.tamu.edu/~icc9709/nwo.jpg)

As you can see, nearly every country has an improved color or totally new color, including many revolters, including the Caucus Republics, the Balkans, and other popular revolters such as the Confederate States, Egypt, Flanders, Wallonia, and Scandinavia.

Enjoy the download!

TO INSTALL:

Simply download this file (http://people.tamu.edu/~icc9709/sexxicolorsBETA1.zip) and extract it to your Hearts of Iron main folder. It will ask you if you'd like to overwrite existing files. Say yes! :D

Special thanks to Ian Coccozza for hosting the pics and download. :)

Be sure to check out his upcoming flag and shield mod! It's AMAZING!

Be sure to post feedback, good or bad, if you've downloaded and tried Sexxicolors.

I have made a VicToHOI2 savegame file converter. It’s only an alpha version, and it doesn’t convert everything from Vic yet, but if anyone wants to try it out email me on "monty (at) ebox.tninet.se" or PM me your adress and I’ll send a copy of the alpha.

Right now the converter converts resources, money, manpower, relations and land units. All countries from Vic to HOI2 are in, and all provinces are converted. Just make sure all provs are colonized, else you will get an error message when starting a converted file in HOI2.

None of the three big alliances are in (haven’t figure out all the details on how they should convert), so if you want to keep score just add them yourself (add at least one nation to each fraction).

I add naval bases and air bases from the file “bases.txt”. It is the same file as can be found in the 1936 scenario folder. Dunno how to convert naval bases, so this is the solution I stick with for now. The file should be updated for future releases…

Naval conversion is not in yet because the game crashed when it’s in, and I haven’t figured out what’s making it crash.

Every country gets the policy they have in 1936 scenario.

Tech conversion is not in either. Have to find some good way to convert it. Every country gets some techs from the start though (same for all)…

Interactive Hearts of Iron 2 Online Map

NOTE: I've posted this in the general discussion already but maybe this is better place for it. Thus I ask moderators nicely to forgive me this double posting. Original thread (http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=199294)

Interactive Hearts of Iron 2 Online Map (http://www.itworks.sk/hoi2map.aspx)

If you remember Clickable world map (http://www.itworks.sk/maps.aspx), which is based on simple principle of having world map divided into 160 sectors, you might know it is quite limited in use, despite sometimes useful.

I've worked some time on map, that would not limit you to predesigned sectors, which would be scrollable, zoomable and maybe provide some other features. And here is first result.

Main features:

terrain world map in three zoom levels (1:40, 1:10 and 1:1)
you can choose display size of preview picture (600x450, 800x600 or 1000x750 pixels)
you can turn on/off drawing of grid with size specified by yourself (now available in 32x32, 96x96, 160x160, 256x256, 284x384 pixels)
you can turn on/off drawing of grid coordinates
you can turn on/off drawing of province ID numbers
you can choose from different colors for grid, coordinates or ID's display

This is all for now, but there are lot of possibilities how to extend this tool. I plan to implement searching for province by name or ID and such similar stuff.

And last thing - please give me your feedback. It is important either for my motivation and also for fixing problems and implementing new functionality. Thanks :)

Enjoy!

Try it now! (http://www.itworks.sk/hoi2map.aspx)

Three zoom levels
http://www.itworks.sk/images/zoom3.png level 3 (1:40)

http://www.itworks.sk/images/zoom2.png level 2 (1:10)

http://www.itworks.sk/images/zoom1.jpg level 1 (1:1)

Display grid if needed
http://www.itworks.sk/images/zoom1c.jpg
choose color and size of grid and coordinates

Display province ID numbers

again you can choose colors

Kleiner Map Editor
(Ändert nicht die Karte an sich, sondern die Eigenschaften der provinzen.)

I've made a map editor, well an editor that makes changing the province.csv a little easier on the eyes... It can't make new provinces, nor change around ownership of existing provinces... but it can change ICs, manpower, climate, terrain, ect.. If anyone is interested, let me know.

http://solomon.physics.sc.edu/~paolone/prov/provinceX.jpg

unfortunately, if you do want it you will have to install the Microsoft .NET framework... I programmed it in Visual C# express.

Well, If you want to try it out, you can get it here. Lord Ederons Online map helps with the visual aspect (make sure you click the province ID box).

## 2 Things ##

It will download the microsoft .NET software from online if you don't already have it installed (no way around that).

It makes a directory in your start menu called "DOS KindOF". That's where the ProvinceX application shortcut is found (it won't be highlighted like most new program links are when they are first installed).

Enjoy!! Feel free to write me with any bugs you find, or problems you have.

@Rhino
